Emily can swim across the pull with "big arms," she can swim underwater, and she can swim to the bottom of the pool to get different objects. Her main goal this summer was to do a handstand in the pool, which she has just about mastered (if you don't have to have both feet up at the same time LOL). This is amazing considering that the teacher really had to coax her to put her face INTO the water during the first lesson back in June. Emily is in full "ready to go back to school" mode. She asks how many more days until school every single day. She is very excited to be starting 1st grade. We will have a busy schedule this Fall with Karate 2 days per week, Brownies (hello, my name is Michele and I am the Brownie Leader...shoot me now), and other school events that I am sure will come along. I am still looking to enroll her in Chinese langauge classes, just at a different place then last year as the curriculum just wasn't what we were expecting/looking for. Lots of exciting things on the horizon.
Alyssa can also swim under water and she is getting better and better at using her "big arms" to swim above the water. She can go down into the water in order to get objects placed on the bottom step...YAY for Ali!!! She wasn't too keen on the beach at the beginning of the summer, but has come to accept the fact that we spend a lot of time there during June, July and August. She doesn't mind the sand anymore and will actually go into the Water Park at the beach for short stints. She has done well this summer considering we are pretty much out of our regular routine, althouh I do try to stick to it in the evenings. Her anxiety about going back to school seems to be surfacing in a variety of ways...although when we talk about her new class and her new teacher, she seems okay. She is very concerned when I go out that I will get lost. The same when my Mom is out of her sight for too long. My Mom recently was away on a cruise to Alaska and Alyssa was very anxious the whole time, worried that "Nanna was lost." This translated to lots of meltdowns and tough days at school. I fully except the first couple of weeks to be hard for her, but she will rise to the ocassion, that much I know. She has a FANTASTIC teacher this year who will be the perfect combination of structured, creative, and nurturing. Next week, Alyssa will start her dancing class. It is an hour of combo tap and ballet and she is soooo excited. I hope she does well. With her, the first class may set the tone for the whole year. I just hope she has fun. The teacher is very familiar with Alyssa and has a lot of experience with children with special needs. The owner of the school has a young teenager with Autism and she has made a lot of effort to include children with special needs into the classes. I really think Alyssa will enjoy this....wish us luck!!
Last night, we toasted marshmellows for the first time. The girls had so much fun making and eating S'mores. (I did too, don't tell anyone--hehhehehe.) I think that they thought Nana was going to throw them into the fire as neither one of them liked the toasting part very much. Emily did toast a couple of marshmellows, but Alyssa only toasted one with my Mom's help--covering her eyes the whole time LOL.
Have a good week next week. I will post some 1st day of school pics as well as Alyssa ready for her first dance class....stay tuned....
Enjoys the picture.
