Fun with broken crayons

Both of my girls LOVE to draw, paint, color, do anything artsy. I have tins and buckets full of crayons. All kinds of crayons. Fat ones. Skinny ones. Sparkly ones. Bright ones. Pastel Ones. AND. LOTS. OF. BROKEN. ONES!!!!
Today Emily and I sat and peeled all of the paper off of the broken crayons after going through bin after bin after bin. The result:
BEAUTIFUL (to a 5 year old anyway)
RAINBOW
CRAYONS
What more could a budding artist ask for????

Did you melt them? We also have LOTS of broken crayons! I usually throw them away, but what a neat idea!!

Yes, just peel the paper off, put them in a tin and place them in the oven until they melt. The girls like using them and also tracing the different shapes that we make.

More details, please...

how high is the oven temp?

and what kind of a tin?

We are so into art these days, I think GP would love this. We have a ton of broken crayons from the early OT days (broken crayons, by the way, are great for improving a child's grasp...)
