My baby is a BIG GIRL NOW!!!!

Alyssa got her "big girl bed." She wasn't really making any attempts to get out of her crib, in fact she loves her crib and has me drape blankets all arond the sides as if to create a cocoon for her at night. As many of you know, she is a creature of habit and doesn't take to change too well. I figured I would get the bed and set it up and take her lead. I really didn't care if she stayed in the crib or not. I just wanted her to get used to the bed in her room. Well, she shocked me!!!!! She was SO EXCITED when the bed arrived and I put all of the new bedding on it. She kept saying, "big girl bed for MEEEEE????" That night, I gave her the typical "5 minute warning."
"Five more minutes, Ali and then it's time to go to your crib." She stated, "No crib, big girl bed." Being that I had just returned from getting root canal (Merry Christmas to me), I wasn't up to the struggle of putting her back into bed 100 times, but how fair is that????? I figured if she is initiating it, I had better go with the flow. I explained to her the rules of the "big girl bed."
1. Once you are in it, you CANNOT get out.
2. When you wake up, you cannot get out, you call Mama.
You understand???? I got a blank starred nod.
Oh boy, I had better take more Aleve.......
I put her to bed and she NEVER once got out. She was asleep in her typical 5 minutes. When she woke up in the morning, she called me.....from her bed to tell me she was "wake." She has napped in the bed yesterday and today and she went to bed the last two nights without any problems, never getting out once. I am so proud of my girl. She has shown me that when she leads the way, she lets me know when she is ready for things. I have learned to let her lead the way more often.
I guess I will be taking the crib down....boo hoo...

1st night asleep in the "big girl bed."

Hi Michele: Your X-Mas pictures are wonderful! Glad Alyssa is taking to her big girl bed. Alicia seems to love her bed also. They look like such little peanuts in them! Happy New Year to all!

Love,
Joann
